A Kindergarten Smorgasboard Five For Friday!

Happy Friday!  Now that summer is here, I feel like every day is Friday!  Yippee for summer!

I am linking up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs for her Five For Friday linky party!  Five pictures from the week...five windows into the crazy world of the kindergarten smorgasboard!

I am planning a huge summer of blogging fun!  Projects, creations, freebies, mustaches and glitter!!!  Get ready for a Kindergarten Smorgasboard summer!

My muschles are sore!  I like to think I am in decent shape (I run several times a week and have been known to pump some iron...) but manual labor is not my cup of tea.  After packing and moving my classroom my BULGING biceps and THUNDER thighs are sore!  But ya know what they say, no pain, no gain!

How fun is this?!  You simply use notebook paper in your printer and you have personalized stationary!  I made this as a gift for my team last year and it was a hit!!  This is PERFECT for teacher binders!  This could even be used for students!

How awesome is the mister?!  Tuesday night I hosted the last party for my friends at my old school so there were about 20 teachers in our house.  Normally when the teachers come, the mister runs for the hills (who can blame him...when teachers gather it gets wild!)  But this time he stayed with his.  He even wore this shirt!  I made it for him using an iron on transfer!

Seriously, real men marry kindergarten teachers!

And this was what I saw this morning!  The CEO of The Kindergarten Smorgasboard is at the vet for a dental cleaning.  The poor guy looks so sad and pitiful.  I can't wait until they call me to pick him up!

And now, I am very excited for this FREEBIE!  I offered this to my newsletter subscribers a few weeks back so now I want to offer it to all of you!!

This is perfect for your teacher binder!  It includes monthly calendars (2 page version and 1 page version), to do lists, meeting notes, and birthday page!    I would love for you to download this freebie and share pictures of it in use!

A Kindergarten Smorgasboard Summer Bucket List!

FINALLY!  My classroom is packed up and moved.  That means... SUMMER VACATION in the kindergarten smorgoasboard!!  Ah, doesn't that feel nice!

Now I wait for them to get my room ready for me to move into!

So...to celebrate summer, I am linking up with Teri, Hadar and April for their annual Summer Bucket List Linky Party!

So here is my summer bucket list!

I have two books that I plan to read this summer.  There are going to be some great blogger book studies for these books so I am super excited to learn from these books and my fellow teachers!  AARRRGH!

I will be blogging all summer!  I am planning a whole summer of glittery fun for you!  My plan is to create all sorts of new common core aligned creations, freebies and I really have big plans for Pinterest!  I will be scouring Pinterest for classroom projects that I hope to make and share with you!  What are your favorite Pinterest projects for your classroom?

I have already organized my clip art files!  Now I have to organize all of my paper files from my classroom!  I will have a large metal filing cabinet in my new classroom so I want my files ready to go in the beast!  I also plan to organize my digital files too!

I plan to start a KickStarter campaign soon so I can self publish my children's book!  I am VERY excited about this project!  The story is based on a true story from my classroom and is a powerful lesson on a very common classroom situation!!!  And yes, the characters are hamsters!!!

True story.  I want a six pack sooooo bad.  GRRR  I mean, really, Ryan Gosling showing off all the time...I want that stomach.  I am hopeful since I am training for a marathon that I might actually mark this off my bucket list!

What's on your summer bucket list??  Be sure to link up and share!

Here is my first creation of the summer!  100 mustache themed sight word posters that can be edited to fit your classroom!  To kick off our summer adventures, let's have a giveaway!

Leave a comment with your favorite classroom Pinterest project (a link would be nice too!) and your email!  I will pick a winner (or two!) to get this new creation!  I will choose a winner at lunch time tomorrow!

A Kindergarten Smorgasboard Five For Friday!

HELLO SUMMER VACATION!  Today was my last day as a Kindergarten teacher at my school!  I am on to bigger and better teaching adventures!!!  (OK, I have to go back Tuesday for teacher work day but I have to do my records and that's all!)  Wednesday is the big moving day!

I am celebrating my kick off to summer with my friend Doodle Bugs for the always fun Five For Friday!  Here are my five fun photos of the week!

I am packed up and ready for the move!  This is about 50% of my stuff.  6 years of teaching accumulates a ton of stuff.  I have downsized...my new classroom is half the size of my old one!  YIKES!

The hardest part of leaving...is these two amazing women!  I have been so privileged to work with these teachers for 4 years.  I am even more privileged to call them friends and family.  They are my inspirations!  I thought this was the cutest gift idea!  How stinkin' cute are we?!?!   And yes, I did have an "Oprah Ugly Cry" moment during our end of the year program while trying to speak about these two.  People, the cry was so rough I had to leave the stage!

As a teacher I don't need gifts or presents for doing my job (but hey, this boy loves presents so feel free...).  There is nothing more rewarding and touching than a letter like this.  How can you not love your job and be inspired to be even better when you read words this powerful?

"I no long hear "I can't"...now it's "I got this!"  People, that sums it up for me as a teacher!

I have started assembling my teacher binder for next year!  Guess what my classroom theme is?!  Rumor is that there is an awesome freebie coming your way!  Stay tuned!

And if you need me the next 6 weeks, I will be on the balcony of my house.

HAPPY SUMMER from the Kindergarten Smorgasboard and our friend JT!

A Kindergarten Smorgasboard of Self Portraits

Wow!  What an emotional day!  Today was our kindergarten program (sadly not our last day...that is Friday!) and Mr. Greg almost went into the famous "Oprah ugly cry!"  I had written a little speech thanking my friend Leigh and her therapy dog, Bear, for coming to our class weekly and then I had some stuff written about my two amazing teammates.  Well, I couldn't even get through the part where I told the audience I was not returning next year.  I had to stop and go backstage while one of said teammates read my little speech.  I finally was able to compose myself to speak about my awesome teammates.  Leaving is something I ready to do and something that will be a very good decision, but it's much harder than I expected!  Especially leaving my two friends.  Shoo, I am exhausted!

I also packed up all of my construction paper, loaded it into my trunk and brought it home!  It now resides in the closet of the Kindergarten Smorgasboard world headquarters!  People, that stuff is like gold!  It must be kept safe and secure!

Go ahead, be jealous of my construction paper!  It's OK!

Monday we did our final art project of the year!  We made our self portraits!  How cute are these!  The monsters did such a good job making these look like themselves....with the exception of the blue facial features!  This is such a fun end of the year project!

The face templates come from Krista at Creative Clips!  They are perfect for this project!  The facial features were something I had in my classroom and have no clue where they came from!

Notice the eye-shadow matches the shirt!

This one is so close to the actual monster it's crazy!

As we all watch the news out of Oklahoma, we are saddened by the loss of life and suffering.  We are also inspired by the heroism of the teachers in the two elementary schools!

As teachers we are always willing to help in anyway possible.  Check out these two fundraisers to help the people of Moore OK!

A Kindergarten Smorgasboard ANNIVERSARY!

Hello!  Well, today is a BIG day here at the Kindergarten Smorgasboard!  It was on May 21 of last year that I typed up this post and officially started this wild and crazy journey that we call Smedley's Smorgasboard of Kindergarten!  I can't believe that this blog...the ramblings and craziness of a male kindergarten teacher has become so much more than I ever imagined!

I want to say a huge thank you for ever time you read my blog, you comment, you email me, you chat with me on Facebook and for being such awesome teachers!  You have made me feel so welcome in this world we call kindergarten and the blogging world!

To celebrate this milestone...533,000 views...1,200 followers....and never ending glitter....I made another video!  This video is a quick tutorial on how to make some really useful counting ropes!  These ropes are great for meeting common core standards for addition, subtraction and decomposing numbers!    And you get to see the world headquarters of The Kindergarten Smorgasboard!

Click the picture to view the YouTube video!  Be sure to share the video and leave lots of love for me!

I am going to be sending out a special anniversary edition of my Kindergarten Smorgasboard newsletter tonight with a really awesome freebie!  The freebie is only available in the newsletter so make you sign up before 8 central time tonight!  You can sign up over here ------------>

And finally, tomorrow is our Kindergarten program and I finished our end of the year video earlier.  This is the last picture in the video...

Mr. Greg leaving the school!  Tomorrow is going to be bittersweet for sure!

A Kindergarten Smorgasboard of Bubbles and Cookies!

As I write this, I am watching the horrible news out of Oklahoma and am praying for the students, teachers, family and everyone involved in the horrible tragedy.  And once again, we are reminded that despite all of the bad press that teachers get,  we teachers will throw ourselves into harms way to protect our students in an instant.

This is from my sweet and talented friend Crystal at The Library Fox.  Please share!

Howdy!  I'm back!  I just told the mister that it had been 3 days since I blogged and the response was "babe, why?!"  hehe  Well, I was gone this weekend so I didn't get a chance to blog!  I hit the road for a trip home to see the family!  My 5 year old niece had a dance recital and a t-ball game this weekend so I went home to enjoy the festivities!

If you want pure enjoyment and fun, go watch 4 and 5 year olds play t-ball and dance!  It was so much fun!  I am on proud "gunkle!"  I can't believe she will be in Kindergarten next year.   Her teacher is gonna have it rough because ya know Gunkle Greg is gonna be watching to make sure she gets the best education possible!  hehe

And now onto bubbles and cookies!

Today we combined two letters into our alphabet countdown!  B for bubbles and c for cookies!

Cookie day worked out so well because I was able to bring my favorite cookie EVER!  These sugar cookies with the yellow icing are made at a bakery in my home town and they are seriously the best cookie ever!  I was so happy that I could have them for cookie day.  People, the icing...it's made from DOUGHNUT GLAZE!  I know, right?!?!  HMMMMM  (So glad the kids ate them all so I won't be tempted...)

Today was also b for bubbles day!  We blew bubbles for days!  I made the BEST bubble solution ever!  Seriously, people...these bubbles rocked!

6 cups of water
1 cup of corn syrup
2 cups of Dawn dish washing detergent

Mix together and let sit overnight!  Makes 1 gallon!  BEST BUBBLES EVER!

And how do you know the bubble day was a huge success??

When we're covered in bubbles!  Ya know my motto:  messy=success!

Now, there was more to "C" day today...but sadly the kids let me down.  It was also c for crazy hair!  Well, guess what?  There was 1...yes 1...person with crazy hair!

That's right!  Mr. Greg was the only one with crazy hair.

So, I decided that if I was going to rock the crazy hair, I was going ALL IN!

Yes, this is what I wore to school today!  The kindergarten smorgasboard has set the standard for teacher attire!

I am currently working on a super awesome incredible freebie for ya...but it's only for my newsletter subscribers!  WHAT?!  You're not signed up?!  Well go sign up!  The sign up button is on the right side of this page  --------->  so sign up!  I hope to send out the freebie tonight or tomorrow!

AND tomorrow is a HUGE day for Smedley's Smorgasboard of Kindergarten!  Be sure to come visit and find out what the big deal is!
